How to build a blog for Jesus – this title may surprise some of you but it originally came from God. I have had this blog for a few years and I think I wrote previously that it was collecting ‘virtual dust’..lol:) I have had this thought about doing something for God and when God planted this idea, I really think it was cool.
First of all, I already had a blog set up and all I had to do was give it a bit of spring cleaning such as updating the plugins and getting a new WordPress theme.
Secondly, the bigger picture was how to build a blog for Jesus. The intention of this blog or why God planted this idea was to share and spread the gospel of His love and truth of His salvation to those who do not know Him yet.
Thirdly, to encourage other brothers and sisters in Christ to do the same. If we have more blogs out there, then more people will know and come to experience God’s love too.
To put it simply, the purpose of this blog is to share and spread God’s love to others. Hence, the birth of Project Grace to encourage believers in Christ to start a blog and provide help to them on how to build a blog. Click on the image below if you need help to get your blog set up for free.
How To Build A Blog For Jesus
Here are 5 ways to do it:
1. Set Up A Blog
First of all you need a blog. Decide if you are going to set up a blog on a free platform or paid. For long term, I strongly recommend to go with paid self hosted platform. It does not cost much and you can definitely afford it by skipping a cup of Starbucks or two each month.
Go read my blog post on setting up a blog ==> How To Create Your Own Blog
If after consideration you still want to go with a free blogging platform, you may try blogger.com or wordpress.com.
2. Start A Blog Planner
Once you have your WordPress blog set up, get organized! A bit of planning is required so that you have a clear direction on the type of topics you want to blog about and when to publish your post. It can be on any topic that touches your heart. Just know that the story should inspire, encourage and build up the spirit of the person reading it. Make sure there is no negativity or any negative connotation in the blog post that you write. Remember we want to glorify God in everything that we do and bless others when they read our blogs. Pray before you write each post and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through it.
3. Share With Your Friends
Once you are happy with your blog post, share it with your friends and encourage them to share with their friends too. By doing so, you create a viral sharing of your blog post and soon you will gain a bigger following of readers to your blog.
4. Blog Post Consistently
To gain a bigger following of readers, you need to blog consistently. The key to blogging is being consistent and persistent. Try to blog at least once a week. If you leave your blog for a long period of time without any post, your readers will tend to forget about you and your followers will drop off. Successful blogging requires time and a bit of effort on your part. Get inspiration by visiting other Christian blogs and see how they do it.
5. Build Followers
After a period of time, you may notice you have a nice group of followers. By this time, you may want to start a regular newsletter to keep them informed about your latest blog posts or any news you think may increase their knowledge of God etc. Be creative. You may even be inspired to write an ebook and share with your readers. I like creating Bible verse quotes and give them out as free printables. If you have a gift in cooking, you may share your recipes with your followers.
See, it isn’t difficult to build a blog for Jesus. You just need to take action! I hope you found these 5 steps to be helpful. If you need any help in building your blog, please feel free to reach out to me. I will be more than happy to help:)
